The Tar Heels were hoping to get an experienced wide receiver out of the transfer portal, but they have missed on the limited targets that they have had that could have brought that with them. The team decided to add to another young guy, though, on Saturday to help the depth in the room.
As first reported by Pete Nakos of On3 Sports, the Tar Heels have signed Washington wide receiver transfer Jason Robinson from the portal. He will have four years of eligibility remaining after redshirting this season.
Robinson did not play a single snap this past season for the Huskies, but was named Scout Team MVP at the team’s award banquet earlier this month. The former Composite 3✮ was ranked inside of the top 500 recruits last season after a productive high school career at San Juan Hills High School in San Juan Capistrano, CA. In his three seasons at the varsity level, Robinson caught 177 passes for 2,578 yards and 26 touchdowns over the course of 35 games. In his senior season, he caught 68 passes for 900 yards and nine touchdowns in twelve games.
This the second transfer addition that the Tar Heels have made in the slot from the portal in this window and another guy that seems worth the risk. The goal for this staff should still be to add another player to this room that has experience, but there is now plenty of depth throughout this unit.
