This has been a season full of cancellations for the Tar Heel basketball, much to their misfortune more than anything, and on Wednesday afternoon that misfortune continued.
Shortly before dinner time earlier today, the ACC announced that the Tar Heels game scheduled for this upcoming Tuesday with Boston College was being postponed due to COVID-19 issues within the Eagles program. This cancellation, the team’s third in the last five scheduled games and seventh overall in the 2021 season, takes what was expected to be another win on the Tar Heel résumé that can use them, especially down the stretch here. More importantly, this means that, as of right now, the Tar Heels are expected to have another week layoff in between games, something they have become all too familiar with and has ultimately prevented them from being able to get in any sort of rhythm during conference play.
The other noteworthy part of the ACC’s announcement is that Louisville’s game with Syracuse scheduled for this evening has been postponed due to COVID-19 issues within the Cardinals program. As of right now, the Tar Heels game with the Cardinals that is scheduled for Saturday in the Smith Center at 6:00 PM is still one, but it is worth monitoring over next 24 to 48 hours. If the game were to get postponed, it would be a major blow to the Tar Heels résumé, leaving only the Florida State and Syracuse games as a chance to pick up signature wins, making the margin of error extremely thin.
