Updated: Dec 3

For the second time in the last six years, the Tar Heels were involved in a fight postgame with their rival, NC State. On Monday, both teams were officially punished by the league for their actions.

The ACC released an official statement from their headquarters in Charlotte earlier this afternoon that stated both schools involved in that confrontation, as well as the one between Virginia and Virginia Tech, were being fined and publicly reprimanded for their actions on Saturday night. The conference said that both conflicts “violated ACC Sportsmanship Policy” and that the actions were “unacceptable and tarnishes the passionate on-field play between the two sides”. The fines will be the maximum allowed by the league and money will be placed into the Weaver-James-Corrigan-Swofford Postgraduate Scholarship account.

The league also said the matter is considered closed and there will be no further comment from them. This means that there won’t any suspensions from the league and it will be left in the hands of the school to render specific punishments to players for the impending bowl games.
