The Tar Heels have had a good amount of success on the 2026 recruiting trail, but the last few days the team did get left off the top schools lists for five highly-rated targets.
It started with 2026 4✮ QB Brodie McWhorter, who released his top seven Thursday afternoon. The Tar Heels were noticeably absent from the group despite recently hosting McWhorter, the No. 24 quarterback in the class, for an unofficial visit in Chapel Hill.
Meanwhile, just a few minutes later, 2026 4✮ RB Deshonne Redeaux announced his top six schools. The Tar Heels were once again absent, although this one made a little more sense with him yet to have made a trip to Chapel Hill.
Yesterday, it was 2026 5✮ WR Cederian Morgan and 2026 4✮ LB Talanoa Ili who eliminated the Tar Heels from contention in their races. The Tar Heels had yet to host either guy, but they were likely looking to get them on campus in March.
Today, 2026 5✮ QB Jared Curtis cut his list down to two schools which means his recruitment will likely be coming to an end in the near future. This stings a little because the team was supposed to get him on campus in early April for an unofficial visit.
While that last one may move the needle just a little bit, none of these eliminations are complete shocks because all of these guys were going to be longshots for the team to actually land. The team will have some work to do now if they want to add another quarterback to the class alongside 3✮ Zaid Lott, but the team should be fine at the other positions.
