For the second time today, the Tar Heels have landed a commitment from the transfer portal. After signing South Carolina transfer offensive lineman Jakai Moore earlier today, the team has now landed a UCLA transfer cornerback.
As first reported by Hayes Fawcett of On3 Sports, the Tar Heels have landed a commitment from UCLA transfer corner Khristian Dunbar-Hawkins, who entered the transfer portal back on April 17th. Dunbar-Hawkins is the brother of current cornerbacks coach Armond Hawkins Jr. He will have four years of eligibility remaining.
In his lone season in Westwood, Dunbar-Hawkins, a 3✮ prospect in the 2024 class according to 247Sports Composite Player Rankings, did not see the field after joining the team in January and going through spring ball with them. Back in 2023 as a senior at the high school level, he finished with 46 total tackles, one interception and one fumble recovery for Tustin High School in Tustin, CA. Prior to that, he spent 2022 with Mater Dei, where he had 14 total tackles and one pass defensed in just eight games.
Dunbar-Hawkins will be able to come in and immediately provide some depth at both corner and nickel. This addition is more about his future where he could become a key piece of this secondary under his brother’s coaching.
