The Tar Heels have been aggressive with the placekicker position so far this offseason, adding two transfers in the first transfer window. On Tuesday, the team added another member to that room in the form of a 2025 recruit.
2025 unranked K Guytano Bartolomeo announced earlier this evening via his social media that he was committing to Carolina and would be on scholarship. According to Inside Carolina, Bartolomeo was offered on Tuesday by special teams coordinator Mike Priefer and he committed on the spot.
Bartolomeo just concluded his senior season at Bergen Catholic High School in Oradell, NJ where he handled the kicking duties for each of the past three seasons. He hit 143 of his 145 PAT attempts and 11 of his 16 field goals with a long of 41. He also handled kickoffs in his final two seasons with 60 of his 127 kickoffs registering as touchbacks.
Bartolomeo has a pretty powerful leg despite only having a career long field goal of 41 and his kicking motion looks fluid. Consistency is going to be the most important thing for him both as a placekicker and as a kickoff specialist.
He should be able to join the kicking competition that is expected to feature sophomore Liam Boyd, redshirt freshman Lucas Osada and Michigan transfer Adam Samaha. DII transfer Jaffer Murphy could also factor in at some point, too.
