The Tar Heels are continuing to plug the holes that the transfer portal created, and the latest one they’ve solved is the one at the running back spot.
As first reported by Pete Nakos of On3 Sports, the Tar Heels have landed a commitment from Michigan transfer running back Benjamin Hall. He will have three years of eligibility remaining at the college level.
Hall, a former 3✮ prospect, spent the last two years in Ann Arbor, seeing action in eleven games for the Wolverines. In 2023, Hall carried the ball 15 times for 69 yards over the course of three games. This past season, as a redshirt freshman, he ran the ball 29 times for just 72 yards, averaging 2.5 yards per carry. The hope is that he can be more like what we saw from him in his true freshman season in his time in a Tar Heel uniform.
This is a solid budget pick-up for the Tar Heels. Is this a guy who is coming in to be the starter? Probably not, but he has the potential to be a contributor in this backfield immediately and will take the pressure off the true freshmen in the room that would have been counted on to contribute right away. Now that the team has added some depth here, the focus needs to turn to the defensive side of the trenches, where the team has some major issues.
