The Tar Heels need to add a defensive tackle in the transfer portal is something that has been well-documented since the end of the first transfer window. On Sunday, the team made their first transfer portal addition of the offseason at the position with a guy the staff is very familiar with.
Earlier this morning, former Ole Miss and NC State defensive lineman Joshua Harris announced via social media that he is committing to the Tar Heels for his final season of eligibility. This commitment follows his trip to campus yesterday where he took in the Tar Heel spring game.
Harris, the 6’4, 325 lbs. Roxboro, NC native is back in his home state after spending this past season with Lane Kiffin and Ole Miss. He played in eleven of the team’s thirteen games, but saw his role reduced heavily at the end of the season. He finished the season with 13 total tackles and four quarterback pressures. Prior to his season in Oxford, Harris spent four years at NC State. Harris played in just seven games in his first two seasons there, but would take on a rotational role for the team in his final two seasons there. He finished his time with the Wolfpack with 27 total tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss, 1.0 sack and 12 quarterback pressures.
Harris might not be a game changer in the middle, but he will give the team a capable depth piece that can play important snaps for the team.
