The Tar Heels received some good news on the football recruiting front to add to an already successful weekend against Duke.
2025 3✮ TE Logan Farrell announced via social media just after noon on Sunday that he was committing to the Tar Heels over the Blue Devils and his hometown school, Illinois. Farrell was in attendance for last night’s game in Chapel Hill, his third visit with the team, and it was one that clearly sealed the deal for him.
Farrell, the No. 24 tight end in the 2025 class according to the 247Sports Composite player rankingy, just concluded his senior season at John Hersey High School in Arlington, IL in a first round loss in the IHSA 7A state playoffs, his team’s lone loss of the season. He finished the year, his first year as a full time varsity, with 425 yards and nine touchdowns on 29 receptions.
When you turn on Farrell’s film, you can immediately see why Freddie Kitchens was recruiting this young man so hard. He is an absolute monster in run blocking situations, something that Kitchens harped on so much with his current unit this year. He makes some nice plays down the middle of the field and has enough athleticism to play in the slot if needed. He is far from the fastest player we have seen at the position and he won’t wow anyone with his route running, but he still has good hands and is a reliable redzone threat. He will pair perfectly with the other tight ends that will be in the room when he arrives that are bigger receiving threats than they are blocking threats.
With the commitment the Tar Heels’ 2025 class already has four commits. The class is ranked No. 17 overall in the 247Sports Composite team rankings. The class sits 3rd in the ACC.
