After the ACC revealed the dates and times for the conference season openers yesterday, they followed that up on Friday by revealing the date and opponent for each team’s conference opener.
The Tar Heels will have to wait until Week 6, but they will open their conference slate at home on Saturday, October 4th against the Clemson Tigers. The time of the game will be decided by the conference during the season, but one would expect this to be in a prime window, especially if the Tar Heels were to get off to a fast start to the season.
This will be the first time since 2023 that the Tar Heels will face the Clemson Tigers, a game that the team lost 31-20 in Death Valley. Prior to that, the two teams met in the 2022 ACC Championship Game in Charlotte where the Tigers dominated the Tar Heels 39-10. The last meeting between the two in Kenan Stadium came back in 2019 when the Tar Heels, who were led by true freshman quarterback Sam Howell, fought hard but fell 20-19 on a failed two-point conversion. In total, the Tar Heels and Tigers have met 60 times with Clemson holding the 40-19-1 edge in the series.
The rest of the Tar Heels schedule will be revealed live on Monday night at 9:00 PM during a special edition of ACC Huddle which will air on both ESPN2 and the ACC Network.
