Heel Tough Blog: Tar Heels 3✮ CB Target Heading to Georgia Tech

The decisions in the 2024 class are beginning to roll in fast and furious. On Sunday, the Tar Heels landed their second cornerback commitment of the cycle in the form of 4✮ Zion Ferguson, whom they flipped from LSU. Earlier today, another one of the team’s other targets at the position announced his commitment to a rival ACC school.

2024 3✮ CB Trajen Greco was trending towards the Tar Heels heading into the month and looked to be positioned well after his visit back in the second weekend of the month. However, Georgia Tech who wasn’t scheduled to host him at the beginning of the month, were able to get him on campus this past weekend and completely changed this recruitment. On Monday, Greco announced his commitment to the Yellow Jackets over Carolina, Kansas and others.

While this is a miss for the Tar Heels, it is one that is likely a result of them choosing Ferguson over him. With Ferguson, fellow June commit Carlos Mitchell Jr. and spring commit Khalil Conley possibly being used as nickel, this class is likely full. The only way the team probably takes another commitment at the position is if it comes from Jameer Grimsley, a 4✮ prospect at the position that officially visited campus the first weekend of the month. As of right now, though, it appears very unlikely that will be the case.

These last couple of days are just the start of what will be a wild run of commitment over the next few weeks. This will be an important stretch for the Tar Heels, who are looking to add some more high end talent to this class.
