For the fourth time in the last week, the Tar Heels have had a player that entered his name into the transfer portal withdraw his name and it might be who you would think.
After entering his name into the transfer portal last Wednesday following the team’s meeting with new head coach Bill Belichick, junior wide receiver Kobe Paysour has withdrawn from the portal and will return to the team according to Matt Zenitz and Chris Hummer of 247Sports. He has one year of eligibility remaining.
Paysour has played in 30 games so far in his career and caught 70 passes for 936 yards and seven touchdowns over the course of the last four years. He broke onto the scene for the Tar Heels in 2022 when he filled in for Josh Downs in the slot while was injured. That year he caught 29 passes for 324 yards and four touchdowns and was off to an amazing start in 2023 before he broke his foot in practice leading up to the Miami game. He would miss the remainder of the regular season, but made a push to come back for the bowl game before breaking his other foot in practice. He finished the season with 22 catches for 282 yards and three touchdowns in five games. This season, he just never was able to get into a rhythm as he healed from the injury and dealt with countless quarterback changes. In the end, he still finished the regular season with 19 catches for 330 yards.
His return is huge for a Tar Heel wide receiving that was simply going to be lacking experience heading into next season. Paysour could thrive under Belichick, especially if he is to return to the slot and could very well be the top target for whatever quarterback emerges from what expects to be a quarterback battle this offseason.
