Chapel Hill Police completed their investigation into a fatal vehicle accident that killed a UNC student back in late January and filed charges against three people, including a member of the Tar Heel football program on Wednesday.
As first reported by WCHL/Chapelboro, the accident took place along Highway 54 in Chapel Hill around 2:20 AM on January 21st and killed 20-year old Mary Rotunda.
Tar Heel offensive lineman Zach Rice, who was in a separate vehicle from the one that Rotunda was in during the single vehicle accident, found out he will be facing misdemeanor charges of driving after consuming under 21 years old, consuming/possessing alcohol under 21 years old and exceeding a posted speed limit. Rice is scheduled to appear in court on March 7th.
Rice is set to compete for the starting left guard spot this offseason as he enters his third season with the program.
