Today is the second full day since the conclusion of the Tar Heels 2023 season and for a second straight day a player has entered the transfer portal.
Just a short time ago, junior defensive lineman Kedrick Bingley-Jones announced that he will be entering the transfer portal after spending four seasons in Chapel Hill. He will have two years of eligibility left wherever he decides to play.
In his Tar Heel career, Bingley-Jones played in 26 games between the defensive line and special teams in his career. Injury issues hindered him from really becoming a big part of the defensive line rotation in the first few years, but he was finally able to stay healthy this year and produced similar results. He finished his Tar Heel career with 7 total tackles, 1.0 tackle for a loss and one quarterback pressure in 136 defensive snaps and 72 special teams snaps.
His departure isn’t much of a shock with just how many guys are ahead of him on the defensive tackle depth. Starters Myles Murphy and Kevin Hester Jr. still have one year of eligibility remaining and rotational pieces Jahvaree Ritzie and Travis Shaw are also expected to be back. The opportunity will be there for current true freshmen Rodney Lora and Joel Starlings to step up.
The last two days are just part of what many expect to be a sizable group of transfers in the next couple weeks. We’ll take you through all of those here on the Heel Tough Blog and break them down further on the Heel Tough Blog Podcast, as well, so make sure you are keeping an eye on our Heel Tough Blog Facebook and Twitter pages.
