The Tar Heels are looking to plug some significant holes on their 2025 roster and the team hosted a transfer at one of those positions on Wednesday.

According to a report from Bryce Koon of 247Sports and CBS Sports, the Tar Heels hosted South Alabama offensive tackle transfer Jordan Davis earlier today. Davis has also been in contact with Central Florida, Kansas, Oklahoma State, Rutgers, West Virginia and Wisconsin since entering the portal on Monday. He will have one year of eligibility remaining wherever he eventually lands.

Davis, a former 3✮ prospect in the 2021 class, spent the first two years of his career at South Carolina and never saw action in a game before he transferred to South Alabama during the 2023 offseason. In his first season in Mobile, he started 11 of the 13 games for the Jaguars, grading out with a 59.5 run block grade, a 57.0 pass block grade and a 57.9 overall grade. He allowed six sacks and 22 total quarterback pressures on 335 pass protection snaps in that 2023 season. This past year, he started all 13 games for the team, grading out with 52.8 run block grade, a 75.6 pass block grade and 57.7 overall grade. He allowed just three sacks this season and 20 total quarterback pressures in 471 pass protection snaps.

Davis might not be a sure thing at the tackle position, but this feels like a worthwhile investment for the Tar Heels if they can land his services. At the least, he would bring some competition for Miles McVay at left tackle and at best he ends up as the starter that helps protect Gio Lopez for a second straight season.
