Heel Tough Blog: Tar Heel Defensive Line Target Goes Off the Board to Wisconsin

Bill Biggs Photography

The Tar Heels landed their fourteenth commitment earlier today in the 2024 class following the first weekend of official visits. The Tar Heels weren’t the only team in the country on Monday to land a commitment based off of an official visit and one of those commitments involved one of the team’s targets along the defensive line.

Earlier this evening, 3✮ DL Hank Weber announced his commitment to Wisconsin following a trip to Madison over the weekend. He was scheduled to visit Chapel Hill on June 16th to close out his trio of official visits with hometown Vanderbilt. The three entered the month in a neck-and-neck battle, but evidently he was blown away by what he saw from Luke Fickell and his staff.

At one time, the Tar Heels were the clear favorites in the race for him, but it seems they have other guys ahead of him on their board. Fellow 3✮ Marcus Downs was on campus this weekend and was complimentary of the team following the visit in a conversation with Inside Carolina. This weekend the staff is set to host 3✮ De’Andre Cook, a guy that they are in a great position with following a strong winter and spring in his recruitment. The team has also been in contact with 3✮ Justin Terrell, although they have not yet secured an official.

Weber’s commitment takes away one of the Tar Heels' options at a spot where they are looking to add at least one target in this cycle. The good news is that the team still has two big names that are in play, both of which they appear to have legitimate shot at landing.
