The Tar Heels have been searching for the better part of the last year for their wide receiver in this 2025 class and they have finally found it.
Earlier this afternoon, 2025 3✮ WR Evan Haynes announced his commitment to the Tar Heels during a ceremony from his high school. Haynes picked UNC over Georgia Tech and Colorado, the other two finalists still in the running entering the day.
Haynes, the No. 138 wide receiver according to 247Sports Composite rankings, is prepping for his final season at the Fellowship Christian School in Roswell, GA. Last year was a breakout year for him as he caught 33 passes for a career-high 671 yards and six touchdowns on the way to earning Class 2 Region 8 all-region honors at receiver. He was a key part of the defense and special teams units, finishing with 52 total tackles and two interceptions and averaging 22.3 yards per return and scoring a touchdown on 17 kick returns.
Haynes is a guy who will have some things to work on when he gets to Chapel Hill, but he has plenty of upside. He may not have the most complete route tree, but the way that he is able to win downfield and consistently create big plays is something that gives him the opportunity to make an impact at the next level. He also does a good job of tracking the football and coming away with contested grabs, things that will also help him see playing time if it translates to the college level. He will have to work on expanding his route tree a bit and the jump from the 2A classification in the state of Georgia will be steep, but there is still plenty to like about Haynes’ future with the program and reason to believe he can factor in on special teams while making those adjustments.
With his commitment, the Tar Heels now have 13 prospects committed to their 2025 class and the class jumps from No. 57 to No. 53 overall in the 247Sports Composite rankings. The class sits 14th in the ACC.
