The preseason accolades continue to roll in for Tar Heel running back Omarion Hampton and Monday’s was one of the biggest ones yet.
Earlier this afternoon, the Associated Press announced their preseason All-Americans and included Hampton alongside Ollie Gordon II at the running back position. Hampton was named a second team All-American by the publication back in December.
Hampton, the first team All-ACC member and second team All-American last year, enters his junior season looking to improve upon one of the best seasons from a running back in Tar Heel football history. The Doak Walker award finalist from a year ago ran for 1,504 yards and 15 touchdowns, while also catching 29 passes for 222 yards and a touchdown. Repeating that type of performance and finding the endzone a few more times might be enough to get him that first team All-American honor and the Doak Walker Award.
Hampton has also landed on the Maxwell, Walter Camp and the Doak Walker Award watch lists this offseason. He is also considered a Heisman longshot, having 200/1 odds on ESPN Bet, Caesars Sportsbook and Bet Rivers, 250/1 odds on bet365 and 300/1 odds on FanDuel.
