Heel Tough Blog: Lennie Rosenbluth Posthumously Elected to College Basketball HOF

Tar Heel Times

The Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame opened in 2006, and for the 15 time, a Tar Heel has been selected to the Hall, this time in the form of Lennie Rosenbluth, the leader of the undefeated 1957 national championship team, who passed away back in 2022. Rosenbluth was a prolific scorer during his Tar Heel career, having left as the program’s all-time leading scorer, a record that has been broken, and surpassed since then. Still, Rosenbluth holds the UNC records for most points in a season, and for the highest scoring average in a season, while also averaging the highest point per game total in program history.

Rosenbluth was an integral part of the recruiting pipeline that Frank McGuire utilized to build the 1957 championship team. Mcguire, who had built St. John’s into a national program, used his New York City ties to build a roster that would dominate college basketball and the ACC, and in the process put the sport of basketball on the map in the state.

Rosenbluth becomes the 15th Tar Heel to be elected to the Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame, joining Dean Smith, Larry Brown, Ben Carnevale, Billy Cunningham, Bob McAdoo, Frank McGuire, James Worthy and Roy Williams, Phil Ford, Charlie Scott, Sam Perkins, Antawn Jamison, Larry Miller, and Tyler Hansbrough.
