Heel Tough Blog: Kendre Harrison Announces Commitment Date

Kendre Harrison is one of the biggest recruiting targets in Tar Heel football history and on Monday he revealed the date that he will announce his college commitment.

Harrison, the No. 9 overall prospect in the 2026 recruiting class according to 247Sports’ Composite Player Rankings, announced via social media that he will be committing to one of his final six on November 30th. The Tar Heels along with Florida State, Miami, Oregon, Penn State and Tennessee are the schools that remain in the running for his services heading into the decision.

This season, as a junior, Harrison has split his time between Providence Day School in Charlotte and his hometown Reidsville High School. In the three games he played for Providence Day, Harrison caught 13 passes for 153 yards and a touchdown, while also racking up 8 total tackles, 1.5 sacks and five quarterback hurries on the defensive side of the ball. Since the move back to Reidsville, Harrison has caught 33 passes for 555 yards and eight touchdowns and tallied 12 total tackles, 3.0 tackles for loss, an interception, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery in seven games.

Harrison is a dual-sport athlete who also holds an offer from Hubert Davis and company. He is currently ranked as the No. 51 overall prospect and No. 6 center in the 2026 basketball recruiting cycle according to 247Sports Composite Player Rankings. Last year, as a sophomore at Reidsville,  he also led the Rams to the 2A state title, averaging 19.4 points, 15.1 rebounds and 3.7 blocks per game. He was named a first team all-state member by the North Carolina Basketball Coaches Association and HighSchoolOT.com and a first team all-conference member as well. The year prior as a true freshman, he jumped onto the scene by averaging 21.5 points, 15.1 rebounds and 4.4 blocks per game, earning second team all-state and first all-conference honors.

When it comes to where things stand in the race for him, it feels like three schools still have a shot at him with one of them having a significant lead right now. The Tar Heels have a slim chance here as the in-state team and the best basketball program of the group, but the heavy favorite going in is Oregon who has already received predictions from Tom Loy and Steve Wiltfong. Tennessee could also factor in here with how often he has visited their campus and the strength of their NIL collective, but Oregon’s football prowess and collective may simply be too much to overcome.
