Heel Tough Blog: Josh Downs Sets Colts Rookie Record

This hasn’t exactly been the greatest year for former Tar Heels in the NFL, but there is one shining light. Rookie wide receiver Josh Downs had an amazing first season at the NFL level that unfortunately concluded on Saturday night, but not before he made a little bit of history.

Downs caught three passes for 48 yards in the game and set the Colts rookie record for receptions in the loss to the Texans. His first reception of the night broke the record that was previously held by Bill Brooks. Downs finished the season with 68 catches for 771 yards and two touchdowns.

This season was a fantastic start to what should be a lengthy NFL career for Downs. He could become the primary target in the Indianapolis offense next season with Michael Pittman Jr. heading to free agency which could allow him to make a run at being the next 1,000 yard receiver for the Colts, something that has become a fixture in their franchise’s history.
