Friday might be the single biggest day for the Tar Heels 2023 class outside of early signing, as three of the team’s top targets remaining in the cycle are set to announce their decisions.
The day will kick off at Noon tomorrow when 2023 4✮ in-state edge rusher Jaybron Harvey will reveal his destination following a full window of official visits. The Tar Heels got one of the early cracks at him back on June 3rd, while Oklahoma, South Carolina and Louisville also got their opportunities to host him over the past month.
Since the Tar Heels entered his recruitment back in February, they have been the favorites for him and they seem to be in that same spot following the official visits. South Carolina was the team that many saw as the biggest threat, but there hasn’t really been any major momentum swing in their favor in the three weeks since they hosted him in Columbia. Oklahoma was the wild card, but it seems like they may have entered the race a little too late for him, while Louisville never looked to be a major threat.
The forecasts should give Tar Heel fans plenty of confidence heading in. All three of the crystal ball predictions for Harvey are in favor of the Tar Heels and come with a confidence level of 6 or higher. Meanwhile, the On3 Prediction Machine has them with an 87.6% chance to land his commitment, easily the biggest margin the team has had in this recruitment on the site.
This was probably the target that I felt the least confident about prior to the crystal balls rolling in last night, but this is now another one that looks like it is pretty close to a sure thing. Barring something drastic changing, this should start the day off nicely for the Tar Heels.
Prediction: North Carolina
