While the Tar Heels continue to handle business on the floor, they were busy off the floor, offering two high-profile prospects from the high school ranks. This was the first action since hiring Jim Tanner to be the program’s first ever GM.

The first player to receive an offer was Taylen Kinney, a 2026 five-star point guard, from the state of Georgia. According to 247Sports, Kinney is considered to be No. 4 point guard in the 2026 class, and the No. 2 player from the state of Georgia. Kinney stands at 6-2, weighing 180 pounds, while starring for Overtime Elite. Kinney listed a top-15 back in December, but that doesn’t mean that Carolina can’t make headway, with his recruitment still very much open. He most recently visited Kentucky back in early February, after the Wildcats made his initial top-15. The other schools to make his top-15, included SEC schools Alabama, Auburn, Georgia, Tennessee, and Arkansas, in addition to Oregon, Purdue, and Illinois out of the Big 10, Xavier, Cincinnati, Kansas State, Kansas, Louisville, and Notre Dame out of the ACC.

Kinney was offered on Friday night, and last night, Hubert Davis and his staff officially offered the No. 2 player in the 2027 class, who happens to be a North Carolina native, in CJ Rosser, a power forward from Rocky Mount. Rosser is 6-9, and weighs 195 pounds, and his offer comes after being in the building yesterday for the win over Miami. His unofficial visit comes after visiting Duke back on February 15th. He currently holds offers from Duke, Cincinnati, Wake Forest, Texas A&M, Georgia Tech, USC, Maryland, TCU, and Presbyterian. He averaged over 18 points per game, with over 6 rebounds, while playing for Northern Nash high school.

Carolina is still looking for their first commitments of both the 2026 and 2027 classes. With the 2025 all but completed, expect Davis and his staff to ramp up their activity in the next two cycles, as the program continues to put together its version of a front office, after hiring a GM.
