Heel Tough Blog: Heels Picked to Win ACC, Multiple Players Earn Preseason Honors

@UNC_Basketball

Last week the ACC conducted its preseason media responsibilities by hosting ACC Tipoff in Charlotte, the new home of the conference. While players and coaches met with the assembled media, the media made their preseason predictions for the 2022-23 season, and the results which were very friendly to the Tar Heels were released this afternoon.

Carolina, which was voted as the preseason AP #1 team yesterday, was picked by the media to win the ACC, after receiving 90 of the 101 available first-place votes. This is the first time Carolina has been the preseason favorite since 2015-16, where they would go on to win the ACC regular season, and ACC tournament, and play for the national title. Duke was picked second by the media, while longtime ACC foe, Virginia was picked to finish third, as the league is set to have a bounce-back season, headlined by its traditional powers.

Armando Bacot:

After averaging a double-double last season, Bacot was selected as the preseason ACC Player of the Year, after tying the record for most double-doubles in a single season last year in NCAA Division I history. In addition to being selected as the preseason player of the year, Bacot also earned preseason All-ACC honors.

Caleb Love:

The junior guard from Missouri was selected as a preseason, All-ACC First Team member. Joined with him are Armando Bacot, Jeremy Roach (Duke), Isaiah Wong (Miami), and Terquavion Smith (NC State).

R.J. Davis:

The backcourt mate of Caleb Love, Davis earned second-team All-ACC honors after a phenomenal sophomore season. He’s joined by Jayden Gardner (Virginia), Dereck Lively II (Duke), Justyn Mutts (Virginia Tech), and PJ Hall (Clemson).
