Christmas may have been on Sunday, but Hubert Davis and the Tar Heels got a late present, as the No.1 point guard in the 2024 class, Elliot Cadeau, committed to UNC over Texas, Kansas Louisville, Syracuse, and Texas Texas Tech. Cadeau becomes the second top ten commit under Hubert Davis, although Gregory “GG” Jackson would decommit from UNC over the summer, and early enrolled at South Carolina. Cadeau hails from New Jersey, the same state as R.J. Davis and fellow 2023 five-star commit Simeon Wilcher, as the Garden State is a prime recruiting area for the Carolina program, but he plays his high school basketball in Missouri for Link Academy, where he is the No. 1 player in the state. He’s considered to be the No. 8 overall player in the 2024 recruiting cycle.
So far this season, Cadeau is averaging over 11 points per game, and nearly 7 assists per contest, while shooting an efficient 39% from behind the three-point line. Additionally, Cadeau becomes the sixth guard to commit to UNC while being a top-ten prospect, with the last being current Tar Heel guard, Caleb Love.
There is a chance that Cadeau could reclassify and join the Tar Heels next season, as he has the necessary academic requirements to do so. That shouldn’t cause any concerns for Hubert Davis let alone Carolina fans, as there may be a lot of talent in the backcourt, especially if either Davis or Love returns, but that would only make it easier to get a three-guard lineup on the court like he desperately desires.
Cadeau joins four-star prospect, Drake Powell as the current commit in the 2024 class, and Carolina is still aggressively recruiting Ian Jackson, and Jarin Stevenson, along with James Brown. When Hubert Davis took the UNC job, he was confident that he could return the program to the pinnacle of the recruiting landscape, and with the commitment of Cadeau, Davis continues to deliver on that promise.
