After adding Vanderbilt transfer Ven Allen-Lubin a few weeks ago, Carolina’s roster was set to be complete for the 2024-25 season. Even with a couple of transfers left in the portal that could’ve helped the team, Hubert Davis and his staff seemed content with how they had built the roster for next season, one that will be full of high expectations, with RJ Davis back for his super senior season. But the Tar Heels added another player for next season, in the form of Elijah Davis, the son of current head coach Hubert Davis, who is transferring in from Division III Lynchburg, where he shot 37% from behind the arc for his career.
The arrival of Davis’s son continues on a long-time program tradition, of having the son of former players play at UNC. Most recently, Creighton Lebo, the son of current assistant Jeff Lebo, was on the roster for the last couple of seasons. Given he’s transferring in from Division III, it’s unlikely that he’ll be on scholarship, meaning that Carolina still has two scholarships left, but for all intents and purposes, the roster won’t be added on to before the start of the season. Hubert Davis has spent the last couple of seasons, making time to go see his son play when his schedule would allow, but now that won’t be a concern, as he’ll be on his bench every night, following in the footsteps of his father, and late uncle, Walter Davis.
Now, Hubert Davis will turn his attention back to the high school recruiting trail, with the summer AAU circuit about to heat, and UNC is still looking for their first commitment of the 2025 class.
