Heel Tough Blog: Harrison Ingram Selected in the Second Round

247Sports

It took until deep in the second round, but Harrison Ingram finally heard his name called after he was drafted 48th overall by the San Antonio Spurs, fulfilling his lifelong dream of making it to the NBA. In his lone season at UNC, Ingram averaged 12.2 points and 8.8 rebounds per game, as he posted career highs in points, rebounds, and three-point percentage,  all while leading the ACC in rebounds during conference play at 10.9 rebounds per contest.

When Ingram decided to leave UNC for the NBA, there was a belief that he could end up being a first-round selection, but an undisclosed injury during the draft process played a role in his falling late into the second round.

Ingram was the only Tar Heel to be drafted, which was expected. Cormac Ryan and Armando Bacot did their fair share of workouts leading up to the draft. Ryan even worked out with the Spurs, so there’s a chance he will join his former UNC teammate as an undrafted free agent. As for Bacot, there is a chance that he signs as an UDFA, but more than likely he’ll have to pursue his dream of playing professional basketball overseason.
