The Tar Heels search for a big man is one that has had many ups and downs in the past few weeks. The most recent twists and turns have come from Rutgers center Clifford Omoruyi. Following his visit to Chapel Hill, he has announced his final four as well as his decision date.
Omoruyi, who spent yesterday and today on campus with the Tar Heels, has them in his top four that he released to On3 Sports’ Joe Tipton along with Alabama, Georgetown and Kansas State, the other three schools that he has visited in the last two weeks. More importantly, he will pick between those four on Sunday according to Tipton.
Omoruyi, the No. 3 center and No. 8 overall player in the portal according to 247Sports, has one year of eligibility remaining. He brings plenty of offensive firepower, averaging 10.4 points per game or more in each of the last three seasons while shooting over 50% overall in each of those years as well. His biggest impact, though, comes on the defensive end of the floor, where he has been named an All-Big Ten defensive team member in each of the last three years after averaging 2.1 blocks per game last year and 2.9 blocks per game this year. He wouldn’t pack quite the scoring punch that Bacot did, but he’d give them one of the best defensive centers in the country and would still provide enough on the offensive end to thrive in the middle for the team.
We will have you covered here on the Heel Tough Blog and the Four Corners Podcast no matter what decision Omoruyi makes.
