The Tar Heels began practice on Monday eagerly awaiting their conference schedule for the 2024-25 season. While the opener was revealed last night, the team had to wait until this evening to get their full slate for this season. Here’s a breakdown of what the team will have to navigate this year in their quest to take home their second straight regular season conference.
December:
As has become custom, the Tar Heels will dip into conference play for one game in the middle of non-conference play and this year it will be Georgia Tech at home on December 7th at 2 PM. This game comes just three days after the team’s crucial non-conference meeting with Alabama in the ACC/SEC Challenge and will proceed the week long exam break before the team returns to non-conference play against La Salle at home.
January:
Just like last year, the team will not start full conference play until January. The team will head on the road for the first two games, with trips to Louisville and Notre Dame. They will return home the next Tuesday to host new conference member SMU, before heading back on the road for their first meeting of the year with rival NC State. The team will then play their next two games at home against the California team before close out the month with road trips to Wake Forest and Pittsburgh and a home matchup with Boston College sandwiched in between.
February:
As has always been the case, February is the more difficult of the two full months of conference play. The team will start the month with a trip to Durham for the first installment of the greatest rivalry in sports on February 1st, the earliest meeting with the Blue Devils since 2002. They will follow that by heading back home to Pittsburgh before going on the road to face Clemson and Syracuse. The next week will feature home meetings with NC State and Virginia before the team closes out the month in Tallahassee against Florida State.
March:
This has the chance to be a difficult three-game stretch to close the season. The team will open the month with Miami at home before heading to Virginia Tech for the first meeting of the year with the Hokies. They will close the season out as they always do with the second meeting with Duke. This year’s meeting will be on March 8th in Chapel Hill on Senior Night at 6:30 PM.
Now that you have the month-by-month slate for the ACC slate, here are some important notes you should take away from the Tar Heels 2023-24 ACC schedule:
Home and Home Opponents: The three teams that Carolina will play both in Chapel Hill and on the road this year include Duke, NC State and Pittsburgh.
Home Only Opponents: The list of teams that Carolina will only play in Chapel Hill this year are Georgia Tech, SMU, California, Stanford, Boston College, Virginia and Miami.
Road Only Opponents: The teams that Carolina will play on the road this year are Louisville, Notre Dame, Wake Forest, Clemson, Syracuse, Florida State and Virginia Tech.
Saturday/Monday Turnarounds: UNC will have two 48-hour turnarounds, as they will play host to Pittsburgh on February 20th before a trip to Clemson on January 22nd. The other one comes a couple of weeks later when they welcome Virginia to the Smith Center on February 22nd then travel to Florida State on February 24th.
The Tar Heels will be looking for a second straight regular season conference title after going 17-3 a year ago.
