The Tar Heels went one for two with their targets that committed on Thursday and Friday will see two more targets who took official visits to Chapel Hill. The first of those commitments will come from 2024 4✮ WR Braylon Staley.
Staley announced on Thursday that he will reveal his decision at 4:00 PM via a live stream tomorrow afternoon. The Tar Heels will be one of those in contention to land his commitment tomorrow along with Tennessee and Miami.
Clemson appeared to be the destination for Staley for the majority of his recruitment. He told Phil Kornblut of the SportsTalk Media Group, though, after the first weekend of the month when the Tigers landed two receiver commitments, he was told to look elsewhere. The Tar Heels became the favorite for about a week and a half span before Tennessee hosted him for the weekend of June 16th. Staley was blown away by what he saw and seemed close to canceling his official visit to Chapel Hill before eventually deciding midweek that he would take it. While the Tar Heels did get a chance to impress this past weekend, it doesn’t appear like they did enough.
The recruiting experts also give Josh Heupel and the Volunteers the advantage heading in. Steve Wiltfong, the director of recruiting for 247Sports, and Brian Dohn, 247Sports national recruiting analyst, both cast crystal ball predictions for him today with confidence levels of six. Rivals lists his recruitment as a toss-up, but the two predictions that have him going elsewhere were cast back before June 11th. The On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine also strongly favors the Volunteers at this time.
