Shortly after UNC hired Bill Belichick as the next head coach of Tar Heel football, he hired Michael Lombardi, to be the program’s general manager, in a sign that the school was going all-in on football, and giving the Super Bowl winning head coach all the resources necessary to be successful at the college level. When Belichick was introduced, and when Lombardi spoke publicly about how the coaching staff would come together, both mentioned hiring an entire personnel department, to help with roster evaluation, both at the high school level and of course monitoring the ever populated transfer portal. That department is coming together, as Matt Zenits of 247Sports, reported earlier this afternoon, that Andrew Blaylock, the assistant athletic director at Central Florida, is leaving for Chapel Hill, to be the player personnel department.

Blaylock has spent the last three seasons at Central Florida, an opponent for the Tar Heels in 2025. Prior to arriving at UCF, Blaylock spent six seasons at Appalachian State, overseeing the Mountaineers recruiting department. Furthermore, in addition to his time in Boone, he served on the staffs of Louisville and Texas State.

This move serves as a homecoming for Blaylock, who is a Durham, North Carolina native, having played high school football at Durham Jordan High School, and when he left, he owned the school’s all-time passing yards record for both a career, and for a single season. Blaylock would spend four years on the University of Florida football team, as a walk-on, appearing in one game.

This is the first of many moves Bill Belichick and Michael Lombardi anticipate to make over the coming days, putting together the best player personnel department in the country, to ensure Carolina is getting the most talent and depth, out of the high school ranks, and the transfer portal.
