Shortly after Bill Belichick met the media on Thursday afternoon, the details of his contract and budget for staff were officially released to the public.

While his contract is a 5-year, $50 million deal, only the first three years of it will be guaranteed. The $10 million a year will be the most that the Tar Heels have ever paid a head coach, doubling what the team was paying Mack Brown previously.

One scary thing about the contract is the buyout number which starts out at $10 million but drops to $1 million after June 1, 2025 according to Brad Crawford of 247Sports.

In terms of incentives, there are a bunch built into the contract with everything from wins to conference title game appearances to playoff appearances. Here is a look at the full list of incentives courtesy of Ralph Russo of the Associated Press.

When it comes to the staff budget, Belichick will have plenty at his disposal. According to Steve Berkowitz of USA Today, he will have a $10 million assistant staff pool, $1 million strength and conditioning staff pool, $5.3 million support staff pool (includes GM) and $13 million as “revenue sharing”.

This contract shows that this athletic department and the board members are clearly invested in taking this football program, something we have been asking for from them since Mack Brown’s first tenure in Chapel Hill.
