There aren’t many recruits in the 2025 class that chose to push off signing until the regular signing window, but one of the top interior offensive linemen, 4✮ Justin Hasenhuetl, in the class remains unsigned. With the hire of Bill Belichick, the Tar Heels have found a way to insert them into the thick of this race.
Hasenhuetl, who was an early focal point for the previous staff before being dispatched when he released his top ten, was one of the first recruits that it appears Bill Belichick and his personnel staff reached out to and it has put them right in the thick of the battle for him. He took an official visit to Chapel Hill at the beginning of this week and it appears that it gave him something to think about as he closes in on a decision between UNC and California.
When it comes to the Tar Heels' chances to land his commitment, they have to feel pretty good with where this sits right now. The Golden Bears certainly can’t be counted out here, but the fact that signing with the Tar Heels would allow him to remain on the East Coast which is closer to his home in Germany. The Tar Heels could also provide him with an opportunity to play early with Austin Blaske and Holy Cross transfer Christo Kelly having just one year of eligibility remaining. As long as the Tar Heels can show him how much they value him, there is a chance that the Tar Heels can walk away with a promising young offensive lineman that could be a building block moving forward on the interior of the unit.
If the Tar Heels could land him, this could be a huge boost for the Tar Heels’ 2025 class which needs to add some bodies and talent. Hasenhuetl doesn’t have the highest ceiling of the guys in this recruiting class, but he would be an outstanding addition to this class.
