With the 2024-25 college football season nearing its end, the college football all-star games are beginning to make their selections of NFL Draft prospects to participate in their events.
On Monday afternoon, the Tar Heels had their first draft prospect named to one of these events when the East-West Shrine Game extended an official invite to cornerback Alijah Huzzie.
Huzzie, who began his career at East Tennessee State, spent the last two seasons with the Tar Heels and was one of the standouts on the defensive side of the ball. Last year, he spent the majority of the season in the slot following a season-ending injury to nickel corner DeAndre Boykins. He finished the year with 42 total tackles, 1.0 tackle for loss, three interceptions and seven pass breakups and allowed just 35 of his 63 targets to be caught for 355 yards and two touchdowns, impressive numbers for a nickel corner. This season, he moved back to the outside and put together even better numbers. He finished this season with 40 total tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss, 2.0 sacks, one interception and allowed just 22 of his 48 targets to be caught for 284 yards and a touchdown. In his six year college career, he finished with 261 total tackles, 13.0 tackles for loss, 2.0 sacks, 16 interceptions, 39 pass breakups and allowed 203 of his 339 targets to be caught for 2,391 yards and twelve touchdowns.
When it comes to the draft boards, Huzzie appears on just one. Drafttek ranks him as the No. 431 overall prospect and the No. 13 nickel corner, so this trip to Las Vegas could be very beneficial for him if he can show out.
