The Tar Heels are hosting a lot of talented transfers on campus this week and on Monday night the most talented thus far added his name to the list.
As first reported by Pete Thamel of ESPN, Alabama wide receiver/tight end transfer Caleb Odom will take a visit to Chapel Hill later this week. He has already visited Colorado and is planning to make stops at Miami and Ole Miss, as well. Odom, the No. 53 overall recruit in the 2024 recruiting according to 247Sports Composite Player Rankings, will have three years of eligibility remaining.
In his lone season with the Crimson Tide, Odom played in 12 games between offense and special teams. On offense, he saw action in ten games, catching seven of his 13 targets for 65 yards and was used throughout the season as a valuable run blocker out wide before getting some snaps in the slot as the season wore on. As a recruit, he is one of the more productive tight ends in the country. He finished his high school career with 113 catches for 1,925 yards and 26 touchdowns. As a junior, he was selected as a MaxPreps Junior All-America first-team selection after catching 63 passes for 1,121 yards and 13 touchdowns while helping Carrollton make the finals of Georgia’s AAAAAAA playoffs.
Regardless of where the staff is looking to use him, the room could use some help. At receiver, every upperclassman from this year’s roster is gone and the team could use some promising option to team with the ones who are already on the roster. Meanwhile, at tight end the team will likely be losing Bryson Nesbit and John Copenhaver, meaning there is plenty of opportunity for a transfer if the team adds one there.
