Wednesday afternoon will put a wrap on the 2022 recruiting cycle, one of, if not the most successful classes in program history. The class will go into the day as the 9th ranked class in the country overall and the top class in the ACC and barring something dramatic, they should be able to remain in the top 10 overall and at the top of the ACC. The team is hoping to add one last piece to the class tomorrow in the form of 2022 3✮ DT Ahmad Moten, the team’s only remaining uncommitted target in the cycle.
Moten announced via social media on Tuesday night that he will be making his announcement tomorrow at 1:30 PM. The Tar Heels will join Miami, Oklahoma, Tennessee and Iowa State as the five on the table for him tomorrow afternoon. All five schools received an official visit from Moten within the last month, including the Tar Heels, who hosted him back on January 17th.
This was always going to be an uphill battle for the Tar Heels considering the fact that Moten, who attends Cardinal Gibbons High School in Fort Lauderdale, FL, is right in the backyard of Miami. The Hurricanes seem to be taking advantage of that close proximity once again, as they got the final official visit and now seem to be in the driver’s seat with Oklahoma in second behind them.
The forecasts for the commitment heavily point in the favor of Mario Cristobal and the new staff, with all eight predictions between the three major recruiting sites going in their favor. Barring a stunning change of heart, it looks almost certain at this point that he will not be a Tar Heel tomorrow.
Prediction: Miami
