The Tar Heels just wrapped up their final official weekend of the summer for the 2025 class and one of those targets has now reopened his recruitment.

2025 3✮ S Julien Horton announced via social media that he is decommitting from Maryland just hours after wrapping up his official trip to Chapel Hill. This race will now come down to the Tar Heels and the Michigan Wolverines, a team that Horton visited back on the weekend of June 7th.

While Horton may not be as highly rated as some of the team’s other targets were, this would still be a significant addition for Charlton Warren and this Tar Heel secondary. This past season as a junior at Bel Air High School in Bel Air, MD Horton finished with 28 total tackles, 2.0 tackles for loss, one interception, three pass deflections and one forced fumble. His stats might not jump off the page, but his speed and ability to play the football certainly do and would make him a welcome addition.

The Tar Heels are now the favorites to land him with the forecasts turning in their favor across the board since the announcement from Horton. His commitment would give the team the much-needed safety they were looking for alongside Javion Butts in this class.
