The Tar Heels have not had a ton of success in the state of North Carolina in the 2025 recruiting cycle, but they have a chance to add a commitment from one of the state’s top edge rushers.
2025 3✮ EDGE Taeshawn Alston announced via social media that he will be revealing his commitment this coming Tuesday at 6:00 PM from his high school stadium. This decision comes after he canceled his official trip to Virginia Tech after trips to Carolina, South Carolina and Rutgers in the previous three weeks.
The Tar Heels already have two edge rushers committed in the class, but this would be a very welcome addition. The team is scheduled to lose both Kaimon Rucker and Des Evans following this coming season, as well as Jacolbe Cowan, so the depth is something they need here, especially with the possibility of more players leaving in the portal. More importantly, the team needs this to slow the decline that they have had with in-state recruiting success.
There might be three teams still alive for his commitment based on the official visits he took, but this feels like it is really down to two. South Carolina has been the longtime favorite here, but the Tar Heels look to have made a significant push this past weekend when he was on campus. The question is was it enough?
