The Tar Heels big day on the recruiting trail not only involved the 2025 class, but the 2026 class as well.
As he revealed on social media on Sunday evening, 2026 RB Crew Davis is committing to the Tar Heels to play both football and lacrosse. Davis’ commitment comes after he took a visit over the weekend to Chapel Hill following an offer from the program on Wednesday. Davis also held offers from Army, Buffalo and UNLV.
Davis, who is unranked right now, just finished his junior season at Iona Preparatory School in New Rochelle, NY. This season, he was named the MaxPreps New York High School Player of the Year after he ran for 1,350 yards and 16 touchdowns on just 127 carries and caught 52 passes from 728 yards and seven touchdowns. He concluded his junior season with an outstanding performance in the state title win over Canisius where he ran for 336 yards and three touchdowns on 17 carries and caught two passes for 27 yards. As a sophomore, he caught 23 passes for 249 yards and a touchdown and carried the ball just five times for 28 yards.
Davis is a running back that shouldn’t be unranked in the 2026 class for long. He is an explosive player, especially in the open field, showing amazing straight line speed and burst constantly on film. He is a decisive runner who picks his holes quickly and hits them hard. He can create missed tackles by changing direction on a dime or by running through tackles, which allows him to pick up yards after first contact. His ability to catch the ball out of the backfield will be hard to compete with in this class, especially with how complete his route tree is for a running back. Davis is a really solid addition to this class and has the chance to be one of the most dynamic running backs that the team has had in years.
With his commitment, the Tar Heels now have five commitments in the 2026 class. The class now sits No. 26 overall and No. 5 in the ACC in the 247Sports Composite Team Rankings.
