With Mack Brown’s departure from Chapel Hill, decommitments were inevitable but so far the only losses they have suffered on the recruiting trail have come in the 2026 class.
On Monday night, 2026 CB Danny Odem announced that he is decommitting from the Tar Heels via social media. Odem had been committed to Carolina since September, but joined 4✮ EDGE Zavion Griffin-Haynes as guys who have backed off their commitments in the last week.
In his post, Odem said that his recruitment is fully back open and that makes sense since new offers are rolling in, as well. While a decommitment isn’t always the easiest thing to recover from, it feels like the Tar Heels will still have a shot here if they make an encouraging hire.
With the decommitment, the Tar Heels’ 2026 class is now down to one commitment and sits 48th overall and eighth in the ACC according to 247Sports Composite Team Rankings.
