The Tar Heels are once again soaking up the benefits of a huge weekend of visits, which includes one of their defensive line targets setting his official visit with the team.
As he announced on his Twitter page Tuesday night, 2026 3✮ DL Jake Johnson will be officially visiting Chapel Hill the weekend of June 13th following his first trip to campus this past weekend. This is the third official visit that he has set so far, joining the trip he has set for the weekend of May 30th to Wisconsin and the one he has set with SMU for the weekend June 6th.
Johnson, the No. 721 overall prospect and No. 70 defensive line prospect in the 247Sports Composite Player Rankings, hails from Prosper High School in Prosper, TX. This past season, as a junior, he racked up 50 total tackles, 11.0 tackles for loss, 6.0 sacks and 13 quarterback hurries on his way to being named defensive lineman of the year in his region and getting second team All-Area honors from Star Local Media.
When it comes to where his recruitment stands, the Tar Heels seem to have positioned themselves as the serious contender in this race. They do have their work cut out, though, if they are going to catch SMU, who is seen as the steady leader for him right now. The On3 Sports Recruiting Prediction Machine gives the Mustangs a 55.1% to land his commitment, meaning the Tar Heels will have to make a pretty strong push here to have a chance of actually pulling it off.
