The Tar Heels are closing out the 2025 recruiting cycle on a heater and they added another target to their growing class on Wednesday afternoon.
During a special ceremony at his high school, the Tar Heels found out that 2025 3✮ ATH Madrid Tucker has chosen to sign with them over fellow finalist West Virginia. Tucker took a visit to Morgantown a couple of weeks ago, but it clearly wasn’t enough to top what he saw in his trip to Chapel Hill the week prior. He will also play baseball in Chapel Hill for Scott Forbes and Co. who helped them close the deal.
Tucker, who just wrapped up his senior season at Fort Myers High School in Fort Myers, FL, is the true definition of an athlete. This past season, Tucker carried the ball 42 times for 383 yards and five touchdowns, caught the ball 36 times for 686 yards and eight touchdowns and collected 43 total tackles, two interceptions, six passes defensed, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries. According to his conversation with Inside Carolina prior to his commitment, it appears that the team is going to use him as a slot receiver.
Tucker, the No. 2168 overall prospect and No. 153 athlete according to 247Sports Composite Player Rankings , is another dynamic athlete that can be used in a multitude of different ways on the offensive side of the football. His ability to track the football jumps off the screen in the first two clips that we see on his highlight tape, as does his speed, which allows him to make plays down the field. His hands are incredibly reliable and his catch radius, especially for someone his size (5’11, 165 lbs.), is pretty big. His ability to simply pull away from defenders with his speed once he gets the football is what makes him so exciting as a prospect. The route tree might be a little limited at the high school level, especially for someone who is going to be playing in the slot, but the good news is when he runs the more complex routes on film, he is able to free himself up thanks to how hard he runs them. The other thing that you love to see is that his success came against 5A level competition in the state of Florida, which is the third-highest classification in the state but contains schools like St. Thomas Aquinas, Lakeland and others. This is a very nice addition in the slot who could be a weapon that gets utilized for the team offensively in the next couple of years. Until that point, he should be battling for a role on special teams.
With his commitment, the Tar Heels class grew to 25 commitments after, at one time late in the Mack Brown-era, having just nine committed players. The team remains 43rd overall and 10th in the ACC in the 247Sports Composite Team Rankings.
