The second game of the Keep Pounding High School Classic featured another large collection of talent, many of which are Tar Heel targets in the 2026 class, as the top two teams in the state of North Carolina, Providence Day and Weddington, faced off. There were many options to choose from, including the team’s quarterback commit for the 2026 cycle, Zaid Lott, but the fans spoke and wanted a breakdown of 2026 5✮ TE Kendre Harrison (check out the video below for more on Lott and the other targets who played in the game).
Despite transferring just a few weeks before the start of the season, Harrison had a nice chemistry with Zaid Lott but was never really able to create any big plays down the field. The one big play that he did create, a throw to the flat that he turned into a 28-yard touchdown by throwing a defender off of him, was called back due to a holding penalty. He finished the night with six catches for 27 yards, which was symbolic of the game result, a 13-7 penalty-riddled loss for Providence Day.
Harrison is everything you would expect him to be. At 6’7, 243 lbs. and plenty of speed to go with it, he is an absolute freak out there on a high school football field. He has the ability to affect the passing game in many different areas of the field and looks very natural when split out wide, something that would have been nice to see a little more of in this game. The reason we didn’t, though, was because of just how impactful he was as a blocker. He had a tremendous night as a run blocker, blasting some tough-nosed Weddington defender off the line of scrimmage. Combine that with the play-making ability as a receiver that he showed back at Reidsville and the first game with Providence Day a week ago and you have one of the most complete tight ends that we’ve seen at the high school level in a long time. What makes it even more impressive is that his coach said after the game that he is only scratching the surface because he is still learning the offensive system. That’s a scary thought for a lot of teams on the schedule later in the season.
Later today, we will continue our big weekend of scouting reports with a look at 2026 4✮ CB Samari Matthews in his season opener.
