Thursday night is the first night of the 2022 NFL Draft from the Las Vegas strip, as 262 prospects will hear their names called over the next three days. Here is a look at where the Tar Heel draft prospects are being slated in the seven round mock drafts and a breakdown of their stock heading in.
QB Sam Howell
Chad Reuters (NFL Network): Round 1, Pick 32 to Seattle Seahawks
Ian Cummings (Pro Football Network): Round 2, Pick 48 to Philadelphia Eagles
Ryan Wilson (CBS Sports): Round 2, Pick 43 to Atlanta Falcons
Vinnie Iyer (Sporting News): Round 3, Pick 66 to Detroit Lions
Matt Miller (ESPN): Round 3, Pick 67 to New York Giants
WalterFootball (WalterFootball.com): Round 2, Pick 40 to Seattle Seahawks
Logan Lamorandier (Sports Illustrated): Round 2, Pick 49 to New Orleans Saints
Drafttek (Drafttek.com): Round 2, Pick 49 to New Orleans Saints
Shane Hallam (Draft Countdown): Round 2, Pick 34 to Detroit Lions
Chris Ransom (Draft Utopia): Round 3, Pick 80 to Houston Texans
Bleacher Report Staff (Bleacher Report): Round 2, Pick 40 to Seattle Seahawks
Jeff Risdon (Real GM): Round 2, Pick 34 to Detroit Lions
Howell heads into the draft night seen as a solid Day 2 pick with just one mock having him going in the 1st round. It seems like the consensus is that he will go in the first half of the 2nd round, but there are a few mocks that see him dropping him dropping into the 3rd round, something that looks more plausible than him being taken in the 1st round at this point with him consistently being the fourth or fifth quarterback of the boards. New Orleans, Seattle and Detroit are the most common spots for him right now, all scenarios that would probably allow him some time to learn and sit, the type of scenario that would be best for him.
OG Joshua Ezeudu
Chad Reuters (NFL Network): Round 2, Pick 60 to Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Ian Cummings (Pro Football Network): Round 3, Pick 86 to Las Vegas Raiders
Ryan Wilson (CBS Sports): Round 7, Pick 242 to Carolina Panthers
Vinnie Iyer (Sporting News): Undrafted
Matt Miller (ESPN): Round 5, Pick 157 to Jacksonville Jaguars
WalterFootball (WalterFootball.com): Round 3, Pick 68 to Houston Texans
Logan Lamorandier (Sports Illustrated): Round 4, Pick 109 to Seattle Seahawks
Drafttek (Drafttek.com): Round 3, Pick 85 to New England Patriots
Shane Hallam (Draft Countdown): Round 3, Pick 94 to Kansas City Chiefs
Chris Ransom (Draft Utopia): Undrafted
Bleacher Report Staff (Bleacher Report): Round 4, Pick 142 to Los Angeles Rams
Jeff Risdon (Real GM): Round 3, Pick 91 to Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Ezeudu’s stock has soared here in the past few weeks and there is now a legitimate chance that he could be a late Day 2 pick. A majority of the boards have him teetering between the 3rd and 4th round right now, a huge difference from the last couple of installments of the mock drafts that had him going late in Day 3 or going undrafted. The versatility and upside is likely behind this climb and there is a chance that Ezeudu could land himself in a really good situation along with a lot more money than once thought.
RB Ty Chandler
Chad Reuters (NFL Network): Round 3, Pick 96 to Denver Broncos
Ian Cummings (Pro Football Network): Round 6, Pick 215 to Arizona Cardinals
Ryan Wilson (CBS Sports): Round 7, Pick 241 to Pittsburgh Steelers
Vinnie Iyer (Sporting News): Round 6, Pick 214 to Los Angeles Chargers
Matt Miller (ESPN): Round 7, Pick 238 to Los Angeles Rams
WalterFootball (WalterFootball.com): Undrafted
Logan Lamorandier (Sports Illustrated): Round 5, Pick 163 to New York Jets
Shane Hallam (Draft Countdown): Round 4, Pick 140 to Green Bay Packers
Chris Ransom (Draft Utopia): Round 5, Pick 145 to Denver Broncos
Bleacher Report Staff (Bleacher Report): Round 5, Pick 164 to Las Vegas Raiders
Jeff Risdon (Real GM): Round 6, Pick 211 to Los Angeles Rams
Chandler was the guy that seemed to be trending up the most following the Combine, but he seems to be the guy whose stock has been hurt the most over the final few weeks. There are still some teams who may still see him as a early Day 3 pick, but it seems like the consensus now is that he will have to wait until late in Day 3 to hear his name called. The good news is, it looks like he will be drafted at some point.
LB Jeremiah Gemmel
Chad Reuters (NFL Network): Round 5, Pick 176 to Dallas Cowboys
Ian Cummings (Pro Football Network): Undrafted
Ryan Wilson (CBS Sports): Undrafted
Vinnie Iyer (Sporting News): Undrafted
Matt Miller (ESPN): Round 6, Pick 188 to Jacksonville Jaguars
WalterFootball (WalterFootball.com): Undrafted
Logan Lamorandier (Sports Illustrated): Round 6, Pick 186 to Chicago Bears
Drafttek (Drafttek.com): Round 6, Pick 202 to Cleveland Browns
Shane Hallam (Draft Countdown): Round 6, Pick 190 to Atlanta Falcons
Chris Ransom (Draft Utopia): Undrafted
Bleacher Report Staff (Bleacher Report): Round 6, Pick 192 to Minnesota Vikings
Jeff Risdon (Real GM): Round 6, Pick 184 to Minnesota Vikings
Gemmel is a guy whose stock has evened itself out after a drastic fall prior to the pro day due to the shoulder surgery that he had. He is now a solid late Day 3 pick on most boards, but there are a decent amount of boards that do see him falling into the undrafted territory. The good news is, his leadership and knowledge is something that teams could really fall in love with and there is a legitimate chance that a team could have them solidly on their board. Regardless, it’s hard to believe that he won’t be on someone’s 53-man roster in the fall.
CB Kyler McMichael
Chad Reuters (NFL Network): Round 6, Pick 193 to Dallas Cowboys
Ian Cummings (Pro Football Network): Round 6, Pick 180 to Jacksonville Jaguars
Ryan Wilson (CBS Sports): Undrafted
Vinnie Iyer (Sporting News): Undrafted
Matt Miller (ESPN): Undrafted
WalterFootball (WalterFootball.com): Undrafted
Logan Lamorandier (Sports Illustrated): Undrafted
Shane Hallam (Draft Countdown): Undrafted
Chris Ransom (Draft Utopia): Undrafted
Bleacher Report Staff (Bleacher Report): Undrafted
Jeff Risdon (Real GM): Round 6, Pick 191 to Minnesota Vikings
McMichael was a name that no one thought would be in any of these mock drafts when he entered the draft back in December, but he has made a major climb here recently. It started with his performance in the East-West Shrine Game and carried over into an electric pro day where he ran a blazing 40. A lot of analysts still have him going undrafted, but that 40 time combined with the upside the he had may have been enough to get someone to take a risk on him.
