We continue our look back to the 2020-21 football seasons for the Tar Heels top recruiting prospects with one of the Tar Heels top receiving targets for the team in the 2022 class. 4✮ WR Andre Greene Jr. and the St. Christopher’s Saints only played three games this season, but we were able to go back to the final game of his junior season for our look at him. Here is our look back at Greene Jr.’s performance in a 35-9 loss for St. Christopher’s against region rival Trinity Episcopal.
The Saints offense did not have the greatest day in this one, but Greene Jr. made the most of the opportunities that came his way. Greene Jr. was targeted seven times on the afternoon by quarterback Joshua Powell and he turned those into four receptions for 74 yards to lead the team in receiving.
Greene Jr. jumps off the screen immediately with his size, but there are a lot of impressive aspects to his game. For one, he does a great job of running routes to free himself up, something that is always encouraging for a prep receiver. He is a guy that has no problem playing physical, something that may be attributed to him also playing a lot of defensive back for this St. Christopher’s team. He doesn’t go down easy once he catches the football and his hands seem pretty reliable, as he dropped just one pass which was helped by a big hit in the middle of the field by a Trinity Episcopal defender. He has a good release off the line of scrimmage, but isn’t the fastest overall player, something that can be overlooked if he can utilize his size and become a consistent red zone threat. His frame is impressive, though, and is one that can be added to when he gets to the college level.
Greene Jr. is one of a few talented receivers that the Tar Heels that they seem to be in good shape for. With the recruiting dead period being lifted at the end of the month, Greene Jr. is one of many prospects who will be taking his official visits to college campuses here in the summer and as of right now, the Tar Heels are one of just two that he has scheduled a visit with thus far. That visit, which is set to take place on June 18th, comes less than two months after he visited campus on his own accord for the Tar Heel spring game back on April 24th. All of this combines to place the Tar Heels as one of the top competitors to land Greene Jr.’s services in the end.
Greene Jr. is the latest of many targets that we will be looking at over the next few months with games from the past football season. In our next scouting report, we’ll head to the state of Alabama for a look at the Tar Heels' most recent offer in the 2022 class.
